Abstract | The open source software movement reflects one of the most dramatic developments in today’s dynamic information technology industry. Interestingly, some commentators have sought to posit open source against proprietary software. This paper argues that while open source and proprietary models may be based on different development and distribution philosophies, neither model is inherently superior. |
